Principal’s Message

Dear Pemberton Families,

Welcome to another wonderful school year at Pemberton Elementary!  We have an exciting year planned where we are “Planting the Seeds of Knowledge.”  Our little school is growing, and we can’t wait for everyone to see some of the new spaces and newly renovated areas. When students return, our new front entrance will be operational.  When you ring the doorbell, you will be directed into the main office before you can access the school.  Having our main office in the same space as our front door will be one of the most significant safety improvements to come from our renovation.  We are also excited to have all of our grade levels back in the building and out of “learning cottages!”  While we are in the final phases of our renovation, there is still quite a bit of work to be done and renovation will continue throughout the first semester.  Thank you to everyone for your patience, understanding, and flexibility through all of our construction.  The end is in sight!

Even with all the movement and inconveniences, our students and teachers continue to thrive.  Once again, Pemberton Elementary was awarded the Virginia Board of Education Distinguished Achievement Award for 2019.  We were one of 19 schools across the division to earn a performance award.  This is a great honor for our Pemberton students, teachers, and community.  Congratulations to the entire Pemberton community!

As we start the year, please bookmark a couple of websites.  Please check our school website ( regularly for updates.  In the lower right section of our homepage is a school and district calendar.  This is maintained in Google calendar and can be linked to your work or personal electronic calendar.  We are also excited to share our new PTA website, This will be a central hub for PTA news and information.

If you have not done so already, please take a few minutes to complete the annual back-to-school paperwork using the RYCOR Online Forms program. RYCOR Online Forms lets you avoid the long back-to-school paperwork. Submit your children’s school forms ahead of time, accessed in most instances through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. For more information about this service, visit the website:

As a reminder, school begins Tuesday, September 3rd.  Our school hours are 8:10 AM – 2:40 PM.  The main office will be open from 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. Students may arrive no earlier than 7:50 AM and students arriving after 8:10 AM must be signed in by a parent or guardian in the main office. To expedite our afternoon dismissal procedure, cars should wait in the car pick-up lane until students are released at 2:45 PM. During arrival and dismissal, please follow the direction of the staff on duty.  If you need to pick your child up for an early dismissal, please report to the main office with your photo ID by 2:25 PM. This will allow us time to call your student before our dismissal procedure begins and allow for the office to be clear during dismissal procedures.

On behalf of the entire Pemberton Elementary faculty and staff, welcome back for another exciting school year!  Please keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teacher and please do not hesitate to contact me directly.  I hope everyone has a wonderful school year!
